Stingrays Swim Team

The Stingrays Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels.  Our goal is to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of HIS or HER abilities.  There is not a set minimum or maximum practice attendance.

ALL practices are canceled on swim meet days.

May 26-June 11th, 2026

Monday - Thursday Evenings

8:15-8:45pm - Swimmers ages 8 and under 

8:45-9:30pm - Swimmers ages 9-12 

9:30-10:15pm - Swimmers ages 13 and up

Guppies will only practice on Mondays and Wednesdays during these first 3 weeks

Only swimmers competing in Divisionals and All-Stars attend these weeks.

In case of rain, here is our procedure:

If inclement weather is occurring before practice and we decide to cancel, we'll send an email to every account you listed in registration.  This should happen no later than an hour before practice.  If you need another adult to get those emails, please add that adult to your account.

If we have light to moderate rain, but no thunder or lightning, we will have practice; the roof shields the swimmers and the spectators.

If the rain is heavy, but there is no thunder or lightning, we will cancel if it seems likely we'll have flooding on the deck and/or the roads.

If we have thunder storms in the area before practice, but the radar indicates they will end before practice begins, or they will move around the Honey Bee area, we'll continue to hold practice.  As you know, we'll sometimes have storms in Chesapeake or Hamptom, but the pool area will stay clear.  However, if traveling to the pool seems risky, do the smart thing.

If lightning is spotted during practice, the coaches will determine the next course of action. NOAA, the American Lifesaving Association, and the National Weather Service advise that we clear the pool if lightning strikes within a 10 mile distance. 

The coaches all have access to a lightning tracking app which will help them decided when to evacuate the pool. We may continue practice if the app indicates we are at a safe distance from the storm.

If the strike is within the 10 mile radius, we may clear the deck and wait 30 minutes if the storm seems like it will pass. We also may simply send everyone home if it seems like practice will not be able to continue.

Our purpose here is not to keep swimmers in the pool when it is unsafe--rather, we want to make a sensible plan. Sometimes a storm in Williamsburg can be seen in the night sky at Honey Bee, and evacuation of the pool just doesn't seem warranted.

Of course, if you feel you want to excuse your swimmer from practice because of weather, you are free to do so without repercussion.

Our Guppy program is designed for young swimmers who may not be ready to commit to the competitive swim team.  No advanced skills of strokes are required for the Guppy program other than water readiness; children MUST attend practice without the aid of their parents.  Guppy coaches will reinforce basic swim skills, pool safety, and comfort in the water.  If, during the season, a Guppy swimmer can swim 25 meters unaided by the coach or lane lines AND has the coaches' approval, that swimmer may be moved up to practice with the competitive Stingray team.  Testing of those skills will happen as needed.

During the first three weeks of practice, guppies will only practice on Monday and Wednesday nights. Once the full practice schedule starts, guppies will be offered all practice days both afternoon and night.
